(The 1965 program was dedicated to Dobie, who died in September, 1964, and his work. It was announced at Council business meeting that a project had begun to buy Dobie’s Paisano Ranch as a refuge and retreat. The Council “undertook to provide a $2,000 J. Frank Dobie Fellowship annually, and Carr P. Collins, donor of the Institute’s Collins Award, agreed to contribute $1,000 a year through the TIL toward a fellowship fund,” according to William H. Vann in his The Texas Institute of Letters: 1936-1966.)
