*William H. Vann announced he would retire as secretary-treasurer before this meeting, and Wilson M. Hudson was chosen to succeed him. President Wardlaw appointed a committee with Lon Tinkle as chairman to prepare an expression of appreciation to Vann for his services. The citation was presented, emblazoned on a scroll designed by Carl Hertzog, saluting Vann for his twenty-three years of service and “dedication to the purposes of the Institute,” formulated, in his own words, “‘to foster the growth and appreciation of creative writing in the state of Texas.” Later, the Council was authorized to secure funds for the printing of a history of the organization which the retiring secretary-treasurer was requested to write.
